Acquittal in Sulochana Murder Case

Court frees man in 2018 murder due to lack of evidence

In a surprising turn of events, a court has acquitted an accused in the 2018 murder case of Sulochana Bahadur, highlighting the challenges of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

JAMSHEDPUR – The court of ADJ-2 Abhash Verma has acquitted Pradeep Bahadur Thapa in the Sulochana Bahadur murder case.

The decision was based on the insufficiency of evidence against Thapa, who had been in custody since December 1, 2018.

Thapa faced allegations of murdering Sulochana Bahadur, a resident of Poradih village, on November 30, 2018.

The case came to light following an FIR lodged by village head Gopal Puran at the Kowali police station.

Puran had accused Thapa of assaulting his mother, leading to her death from a head injury.

Despite past allegations of Thapa demanding money for alcohol and assaulting his mother, the court granted him the benefit of doubt.

This ruling came after hearing testimonies from seven witnesses, which ultimately failed to provide conclusive evidence against Thapa.

The court’s decision underscores the legal principle of the benefit of the doubt, ensuring that an individual cannot be convicted without sufficient evidence.
