Bhojpuri Drama Festival Ignites Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur’s cultural scene enlivened with the launch of the 8th Bhojpuri Drama Festival at Tulsi Bhawan.

JAMSHEDPUR – The 8th Bhojpuri Drama Festival, a beacon of cultural and theatrical excellence, commenced at Tulsi Bhawan, Jamshedpur, marking a significant moment for the local and national theater community.

The event, a collaboration between the Singhbhum District Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Sugga Ventures Pvt. Ltd., and Delhi’s Rangashree, showcased the richness of Bhojpuri theater, underlined by the patronage of the Union Ministry of Culture.

The festival’s inauguration saw the launch of Sugga Taxi Service in Jamshedpur, introducing a new, cost-effective transportation option for residents, amidst a ceremony attended by 250 honored drivers and notable dignitaries, including Jamshedpur MP Vidyut Varan Mahato.

Two plays, "Haathi Ke Daant" and "Aman Ke Rakhwaar," were the highlights of the event, drawing applause for their humor, satire, and incisive social commentary.

The former, a critique of political opportunism, and the latter, an exposé on police corruption, utilized the talents of actors like Akhilesh Kumar Pandey, Soumitra Verma, and Vijay Yadav to captivate and enlighten the audience.

Gaurav Prakash’s performance, especially his Launda dance, along with Anil Gupta’s singing and Naval Kishore’s tabla playing, added a memorable flair to the event.

The technical brilliance of the plays was ensured by the dedicated efforts of Ravi Kant Prakash, Luv Kant Singh, Meena Rai, Suchitra Singh, and makeup artist Rashmi Godara.

Rangashree’s commitment to addressing societal issues through Bhojpuri theater was evident, as the festival became a platform for both entertainment and enlightenment.

The event not only celebrated the cultural heritage of Bhojpuri theater but also engaged the audience in reflecting on pressing social and political challenges.
