Saryu Roy Seeks Accountability for Misleading Assembly Responses

MLA Advocates for Action Against Ministers for False Assembly Answers

Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy calls for legal consequences against ministers providing misleading answers in the Jharkhand Assembly, inspired by a recent Supreme Court decision.

JAMSHEDPUR – In an effort to bolster transparency and accountability within the Jharkhand Assembly, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy has proposed a system for penalizing ministers who provide incorrect answers.

Roy’s suggestion comes in the wake of a Supreme Court order, advocating for legal action against ministers misleading parliament or assembly members, especially if done to protect personal connections.

The proposal was sparked by an inquiry to Health Minister Banna Gupta regarding absenteeism and payroll fraud by a doctor, leading to unsatisfactory government responses.

Roy highlighted a specific case involving Dr. Renuka Chaudhary, who was found to have received salary payments despite prolonged absence, a fact confirmed by a committee investigation yet obfuscated in Assembly responses.

Enhancing Legislative Integrity

Roy’s initiative seeks to enforce integrity among ministers, ensuring that assembly inquiries receive accurate and honest answers.

This move is aimed at preventing corruption and promoting a culture of accountability within state governance.

Addressing Assembly Misinformation

The controversy surrounding the disappearance of attendance records, cited in government responses to queries about the accused doctor’s absenteeism, underscores the need for stringent measures against misinformation.

Roy urges the Assembly Speaker to consider contempt actions against those who mislead the legislature, questioning the extent to which criminal charges can be applied under Supreme Court guidelines.
