RANCHI – A squad of Naxalites led by Virsen alias Chanchal, carrying a Rs 25 lakh reward, has been cornered near Halve-Kamalchumba in the Bokaro district. Since Tuesday, a joint operation by the Barhi Cobra Battalion, CRPF, Jharkhand Jaguar, and local police has tightened the siege around the Naxalite group.

Intermittent gunfire erupted since 10 am Wednesday, with no casualties reported. Virsen’s squad fired twice towards security forces who are steadily closing in. Bokaro SP Priyadarshi Alok estimates 15-20 Naxalites within the besieged group.
