Manch Members Demand Action Against Displacement and Environmental Harm
Manch alleged that in a beautification drive across Jamshedpur structures have been demolished and thousands of trees are cut, urging immediate legal action to address public grievances and environmental damage.
JAMSHEDPUR – Concerns have been raised in Jamshedpur over the displacement of residents and environmental degradation resulting from a citywide beautification campaign.
The Jan Ekta Manch, representing multiple political parties, has officially approached the District Commissioner to voice the distresses affecting the community.
It alleged that the drive, initially aimed at enhancing the city’s aesthetic appeal, has led to the indiscriminate demolition of homes and the felling of thousands of trees, raising alarms over potential ecological harm and the loss of personal and commercial spaces without any provision for alternatives.
Manch said that the drives affected areas include Kadma, Sonari, Mango, Dimna, Sakchi, and Bistupur, where both the livelihoods of shopkeepers and the living conditions of the poor have been severely impacted.
The roads in Kadma have been particularly affected, with closures causing significant disruptions.
Allegations have been made that the demolition and clearance activities are part of a wider scheme, resulting in abandoned sites that become hotspots for illicit activities such as liquor consumption and gambling.
The Manch’s plea to the authorities is for immediate legal intervention to identify and address the forces behind these drastic changes.
The Manch underscored the urgency of safeguarding citizen facilities and the local environment from further degradation.
Manch said that unless actions are taken promptly, there’s a looming threat of a mass movement led by public representatives to fight for the rights and welfare of the affected populace.
