Ramesh Bais new Jharkhand Governor as 8 states get new heads

New Delhi: Ramesh Bais has been appointed as the new Governor of Jharkhand. He is presently the Governor of Tripura and has been transferred to Jharkhand to replace the current incumbent Draupadi Murmu.

The President of India has made eight changes today. Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Governor of Mizoram is transferred and appointed as Governor of Goa.

Satyadev Narayan Arya, Governor of Haryana is transferred and appointed as Governor of Tripura.

On the other hand, Ramesh Bais, Governor of Tripura is transferred and appointed as Governor of Jharkhand.

Further, Thaawarchand Gehlot has been appointed as Governor of Karnataka.

Bandaru Dattatraya, Governor of Himachal Pradesh is transferred and appointed as Governor of Haryana.

On the other hand, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati as Governor of Mizoram. At the same time, Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel as Governor of Madhya Pradesh. Besides, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.

The above appointments will take effect from the dates the new incumbents assume charge of their respective offices.

Mr. Ramesh Bais was appointed governor of Tripura in 2019 after Modi-led BJP formed government at the Centre for the second time.

He served as a Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for Environment and Forests in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government from 1999. He was elected to the 9th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th Lok Sabha from Raipur.

Interestingly, none of the sitting MPs of Chhattisgarh were offered tickets during 2019 Lok Sabha elections, including five-time MP Bais.

He had been continuously winning the Raipur parliamentary constituency since 1996, but was replaced by Sunil Soni.

There was a lot of displeasure among his supporters. However, Bais himself was seen seeking votes for the BJP candidate, following which he was made the governor of Tripura when Modi government returned to power post polls.

On 20 July 2019, he was appointed as 18th governor of Tripura succeeding Kaptan Singh Solanki, a senior leader from Madhya Pradesh.

He had been a powerful OBC leader of BJP in Chhattisgarh.
