Jamshedpur Private Schools Gear Up for Nursery, LKG Admissions

Admission Lottery in 70 Schools Sparks Parental Interest, Ensures Transparency

Jamshedpur’s 70 CBSE-CISCE private schools begin the lottery admission process for Nursery and LKG, attracting 1.15 lakh parents for 9750 seats, with results due on January 20.

JAMSHEDPUR – The private schools in Jamshedpur have embarked on a crucial phase of their academic calendar, the lottery-based admissions for Nursery and LKG classes.

The process, which commenced on January 5, will continue until January 19, with a keen interest from approximately 1.15 lakh parents who have applied for around 9750 seats available in 70 schools.

The outcome of this highly anticipated lottery will be declared on January 20.

This novel approach to admissions, decided independently by school managers, has been duly reported to the District Education Department.

The District Education Superintendent, Nishu Kumari, has outlined strict guidelines, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), to uphold transparency and fairness in the lottery process.

In an effort to deter any malpractices, the department has warned that any irregularities could lead to severe consequences, including the revocation of a school’s recognition.

Parental Involvement and Supervision

To further ensure fairness, the lottery process will include the presence of 10 parents per school, randomly selected from those who have filled out admission forms. These parents will receive notification about the lottery via phone calls from the school managers. To maintain transparency, the entire process will be recorded and the video will be made available on the respective school websites.

Innovative Online Lottery System

A significant majority, 95%, of the private schools in the city, have opted for an online lottery system. This decision, primarily for the convenience of the school management, has been met with some skepticism by parents. However, the department is actively working to alleviate these concerns and ensure a transparent and fair process.

Scrutiny and Verification Measures

Prior to the lottery results, the schools have begun a thorough verification of the documents submitted by parents. This includes checking Aadhar cards, birth certificates, and other relevant documents. A special focus is being placed on birth certificates to verify the children’s actual age, with the possibility of involving the RTE cell for further scrutiny.

Innovative Education Approaches

In a notable development, Loyola School, a prominent institution in the city, has announced that it will be closing admissions for LKG from the next academic year, focusing solely on Nursery as the entry point. Additionally, the school is introducing 25 bagless days for junior students and 10 for seniors, emphasizing activities like art, craft, Zumba, yoga, karate, and even introducing robotics and AI studies.

Detailed Schedule for Parents

The schools have published detailed schedules of their respective lottery processes, allowing parents to stay informed about when and where these events will take place.

Strict Oversight and Consequences

Nishu Kumari emphasized the importance of transparency and fairness in the lottery process. Supervisors from the District Education Department will be specially deployed in all schools to oversee the proceedings, and any complaints of irregularities will be thoroughly investigated with potential for strict action.
