Jharkhand Authorities Conduct Statewide Jail Raids; Jamshedpur’s Ghaghidih Central Jail Searched
A surprise raid by district authorities at Ghaghidih Central Jail, Jamshedpur, forms part of a statewide operation to curb jail-based crimes.
JAMSHEDPUR – The district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri, carried out an unexpected raid at Ghaghidih Central Jail, located in the Parsudih police station area, on Monday.
Beginning at 9 am, the raid involved top officials including the DC, DDC, SDO, and other senior officers.
This action is part of a directive from the Chief Secretary and DGP of Jharkhand, aiming to conduct raids across all Central Jails in the state.
During the operation, every ward and cell in the jail were meticulously searched, including those of notorious criminals, though no objectionable materials have been reported found so far.
The raid, which caused a stir among the inmates, is a measure to prevent crimes orchestrated from within the prison.
Stringent security measures were in place, given that the raid was conducted while all prisoners were outside their cells.
While detailed findings from this raid and others conducted simultaneously across Jharkhand, including in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Dumka, have yet to be disclosed, the operation is indicative of the state’s efforts to clamp down on jail-based criminal activities.
DC Manjunath Bhajantri highlighted the thoroughness of the operation, ensuring that not only were all wards searched but also that every facility provided to inmates was scrutinized for potential misuse.
He emphasized that the operation was conducted keeping in mind the potential role of jail resources in criminal activities outside.
As the investigation continues, the administration remains vigilant in ensuring that no suspicious items are present within the jail premises.
