Tata Steel’s ‘Mind Over Matter’ Challenge Marks New Heights in Innovation
Record Participation in Tata Steel’s Mentorship Program, Young Innovators Shine at ‘Mind Over Matter’
Tata Steel’s ‘Mind Over Matter’ innovation challenge concluded its 9th edition, witnessing record participation and showcasing exceptional talent from India’s premier technological institutions.
JAMSHEDPUR – This year’s ‘Mind Over Matter’ finale was marked by a record 450 registrations, a 30% increase over the previous year, underlining the growing interest and enthusiasm among young innovators.
Tata Steel’s selection process was notably inclusive, extending invitations to 37 top national and regional technology and engineering academic institutions, including 14 IITs and 10 NITs.
In a pioneering move, this year’s challenge for the first time welcomed first-year M.Tech students alongside final-year B.Tech and dual degree (B.Tech + M.Tech) students.
The event’s success and recognition as a benchmark in research and academia-corporate collaboration can be attributed to its consistent focus on real-world steelmaking and new material applications.
Participating teams, mentored by Tata Steel’s R&D leaders, had the privilege of visiting Tata Steel to develop their innovative ideas into prototypes.
Winners of the challenge, alongside first and second runners-up, were awarded cash prizes and the opportunity to join Tata Steel as Management Trainees in R&T, alongside Pre-Placement Interviews for teams ranking 4th to 11th.
Dr. Debashish Bhattacharjee, Vice President of Technology and R&D at Tata Steel, highlighted the challenge’s role in fostering innovation amid the evolving consumer needs and the focus on sustainability.
Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, emphasized the event’s significance in converging brilliant minds for innovation and meaningful contributions.
Ranjan Kumar Verma from IIEST Shibpur, the team from IIT ISM Dhanbad, and Vanshika Dixit from MNIT Jaipur were announced as the second runner-up, first runner-up, and winner, respectively.
The 9th edition of Tata Steel’s flagship technology mentorship program ‘Mind Over Matter’ concluded on December 18, achieving a new milestone in innovation and technological collaboration.
