The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed by Dr. N B Chowdary, Director of CTRTI, and Sourav Roy, CEO of Tata Steel Foundation, at the CTRTI campus.
This partnership focuses on extending support in sericulture for training and implementing effective pre-cocoon and post-cocoon technologies.
Sourav Roy emphasized the goal of providing comprehensive training and orientation to underserved communities, revitalizing the Tasar silk and sericulture sector in Harichandanpur, Sukinda, and Danagadi.
The collaboration aims to conserve the Sukinda ecorace and strengthen community well-being in Tasar cultivation areas.
Both entities will jointly provide technical assistance and training in disease management for host plants and silkworm larvae, integrated conservation, land management, and assist in obtaining necessary certifications.
Six training sessions annually are planned, targeting 160 households to develop Tasar cultivation zones, foster biodiversity-rich ecosystems, and establish self-governed community institutions.
These initiatives are expected to increase the annual income of households in Tasar cultivation areas.
The collaboration reflects Tata Steel Foundation’s commitment to practical solutions for sustainable development, with a focus on community-centric progress.
