Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue Success: 41 Workers Freed

The Great Indian Tunnel Rescue: 400-Hour Operation Rescues 41 in Uttarakhand Tunnel

Historic 400-hour rescue operation in Uttarakhand tunnel successfully frees 41 workers, highlighting construction safety in the Himalayas.

DESK – Capping an operation that lasted over 400 hours, rescuers managed to reach 41 workers trapped in the Uttarkashi tunnel since November 12.

It was a test of grit and perseverance – for men on both sides of the 57 metres of debris – as the rescue operation suffered one setback after another.

In the end, with the drilling machine giving way, it was miners who dug through the last 12 metres and reached the trapped men.

Around 8 pm, the first worker was taken out and taken to a medical centre in the ambulance.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met the workers who have been rescued along with Union Minister of State General (Retd) VK Singh.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the workers will be kept under medical observation, before being sent home.

He also announced that Rs 1 lakh will be given to each of the 41 construction workers.

Dhami said that the Baukhnag temple will be rebuilt and the tunnels under construction in the hill state will be reviewed.

The Uttarkashi tunnel collapse had sparked a massive rescue operation, challenging the capabilities of the rescue teams and highlighting the risks associated with tunnel construction in the Himalayan region.

This incident has brought into focus the need for stringent safety measures and protocols in construction projects, especially in geologically sensitive areas like Uttarakhand.

The successful rescue operation is a testament to the resilience and dedication of the rescue teams and the miners who played a crucial role in this operation.
