US Hindus Demand Baskin-Robbins Apology Over Beef in Ice Cream
US Hindus urge Baskin-Robbins for apology and recall over hidden beef ingredient in their ‘Rocky Road’ ice cream, creating a religious controversy.
WORLD DESK – Inspire Brands, parent company of Baskin-Robbins, faces calls from Hindu devotees, led by Rajan Zed, for the recall of ‘Rocky Road’ ice cream due to the inclusion of beef-derived gelatin.
Zed has urged CEO Paul Brown to replace all packages not clearly stating the gelatin’s source in the ingredients label.
Zed adds that in the future, products containing beef should have it explicitly listed in the ingredients.
He also reminds that Hinduism, the world’s oldest and third-largest religion with about 1.2 billion followers, should not be taken lightly.
Every faith, irrespective of its size, deserves respect.
Zed emphasizes the severity of the issue, as the consumption of ‘Rocky Road’ ice cream containing beef could deeply hurt Hindu devotees’ sentiments, especially when cows are considered sacred in Hinduism.
Baskin-Robbins, the global chain of ice cream specialty shops, has been called out by Zed for failing to disclose the source of gelatin used in the product.
Zed terms the lack of transparency by Baskin-Robbins as a violation of their "Commitment to Better".
Zed reveals that upon contacting Baskin-Robbins, it was confirmed by Customer Relations Coordinator Katie that the gelatin in ‘Rocky Road’ is sourced from both pork and beef.
The statement by Zed, President of Universal Society of Hinduism, points out the hidden beef ingredient in the popular ice cream, which Hindu followers have been consuming for years without this knowledge.
This situation has sprung from the fact that the source of the gelatin wasn’t disclosed in the “Ingredients” list on the product’s packaging.
