Land Dispute Victim Warns of Self-Immolation at Jamshedpur DC Office

A Kadma resident, Bahadur Tudu, driven to desperation by administrative indifference, contemplated suicide at the Deputy Commissioner’s office over unresolved land dispute issues.

JAMSHEDPUR – Troubled by the alleged indifference of the administration, a resident of Kadma, Bahadur Tudu, arrived at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday with the intention to commit suicide.

Luckily, the onlookers at the scene managed to persuade him otherwise, thereby averting a potential tragedy.

Bahadur Tudu is the owner of one and a half Katha of land in Baliguma, Mango, which, according to him, was unlawfully seized by the land mafia.

In this case, Despite a lengthy court battle spanning over 35 years, and a ruling in his favor, Bahadur Tudu claimed that the administration was not taking any action to help him regain his property, leading him to contemplate self-immolation.

A Three-Decade-Long Struggle

Bahadur Tudu revealed that he currently resides in Shastri Nagar, Kadma. His mother initially filed the case against the encroachment of their land in Baliguma, Mango, and he took up the fight following her demise. Recently, after a grueling 35-year legal battle, the court finally ruled in his favor.

However, despite the favorable verdict, there were no steps taken by the administration to enforce the court’s decision and help him reclaim his land. Frustrated and seeing no other recourse, he decided to end his life.

A Glimmer of Hope

Fortunately, his suicide attempt was thwarted by the people present at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. After speaking with the Land Revenue Deputy Collector (LRDC) on the spot, he was assured of help in the matter, leading him to reconsider his drastic decision.

Recently, in a similar case, one Sunil Pillai had self-immolated in Tatanagar Railway Traffic Colony and died during treatment. He too had alleged apathy and negligence of railway officials in a land dispute.
