On November 18, 2021, her corpse was discovered in a gunny bag, floating in the Tar company pond.

A complaint was filed against ASI Dharmendra at the Bistupur police station for kidnapping, murder, and disposal of the body to hide evidence after her younger sister said she recognised the body.

After the awarding of sentence, Lakshmi Patel, Varsha Patel’s mother, noted that her daughter had a strong ambition to become an administrative officer and was highly ambitious. Despite the fact that the police were not very cooperative with her during the investigations, she said that she welcomed the court’s ruling and is happy with the outcome.

It may be mentioned here that Dharmendra rode his bike to Varsha Patel’s residence the day of the murder, then he and her sister Jaya went to Telco.

In the ensuing altercation, Jaya’s head was struck against the wall and she passed away. Then, after midnight, Dharmendra placed her dead body in a gunny bag and dumped it into the Tar Company pond. He had also allegedly enlisted the aid of a guard, telling him that he would be disposing of puja materials.

Varsha Patel, a native of Bistupur, was killed, and Dharmendra Kumar Singh, an ASI from the Sakchi police station in Jamshedpur, was found guilty by the courts.

He has been awarded a life term in jail by the Jamshedpur court under sections 201 and 302 of the IPC.
