Afridi is chief selector of Pakistan cricket team

Former captain Shahid Khan Afridi has been appointed as the interim chief selector of the Pakistan national cricket team.

He will perform this duty in the home series against New Zealand.

Abdur Razzak and Rao Iftekhar Anjum are other members along with Afridi. Member of PCB Management Committee Harun Rashid will be the convener.

The new committee’s first task will be to select the ODI squad for the New Zealand series in January next year in Karachi.

PCB President Najam Sethi welcomed the Interim Selection Committee, ‘I welcome the Interim National Selection Committee and have no doubt that despite the limited time they will take effective and bold decisions that will help us build a strong and competitive team for the New Zealand series.’

Sethi said, ‘Shahid Afridi was an aggressive cricketer who played cricket without any fear. He has 20 years of cricket experience. He has been successful in participating in all formats, helping youngsters. In our opinion the most deserving in modern cricket. I am confident about him. He will select the best cricketers and help the team achieve success.

Meanwhile, Afridi thanked Sethi for showing faith in him, “I feel honored that the PCB management committee has given me this responsibility and I will not make any mistakes in fulfilling this responsibility to the best of my ability.”
