PM Modi meets top CEOs in US

PM Narendra Modi arrived in US on Wednesday on a 3-day visit. He will meet the US President Joe Biden and also address the UN General Assembly.

Desk: The PM had a tight schedule in USA on the very first day of his visit. He met Mr. Stephen Schwarzman, Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of Blackstone as well as CEOs of Qualcomm and Adobe as well as First Solar. He would also meet the US President Joe Biden and Vice-president Kamala Harris.

During his meeting with Stephen Schwarzman, the latter briefed the Prime Minister about Blackstone’s ongoing projects in India, and their interest in further investments in the infrastructure and real estate sectors. Promising investment opportunities in India including those under National Infrastructure Pipeline and National Monetisation Pipeline were also discussed.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also met Mr. Vivek Lall, Chief Executive of General Atomics Global Corporation today.

They spoke about strengthening the defence technology sector in India. Mr. Lall appreciated the recent policy changes to accelerate defence and emerging technology manufacturing and augment capacity building in India.

After that the PM Narendra Modi met Mr. Mark Widmar, CEO of First Solar.

They talked about India’s renewable energy landscape, particularly solar energy potential, and our target of 450 GW electricity generation from renewable sources by 2030. Discussions also took place about First Solar’s interest in setting up manufacturing facilities in India using their unique thin-film technology by availing the recently launched Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, as well integrating India into global supply chains.

Soon after, Mr. Modi met Mr. Shantanu Narayen, President and CEO of Adobe today.

They discussed Adobe’s ongoing collaboration and future investment plans in India. Discussions also focused on India’s flagship programme Digital India, and use of emerging technologies in sectors like health, education and R&D.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also met Mr. Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm today.

During the meeting, they discussed investment opportunities offered in India’s telecommunications and electronics sector. This included the recently launched Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) as well as developments in the semiconductor supply chain in India. Strategies for building the local innovation ecosystem in India were also discussed.

After meeting the US president and the Vice President, he would also meet the Australian PM Scott Morrison and Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga. Both are the members of the Quadrilateral Security Alliance or Quad.

He is also scheduled to addressing the UN General Assembly.
