Strict action be taken against persons responsible for harassing Dr Anand: Dr Umesh Khan

Jamshedpur:- Jamshedpur unit of Indian Medical Association has condemned the handcuffing of Dr. O P Anand, the MD of 111 Save Life Hospital in Seraikela Kharsawan district.

The IMA in its statement said that the doctor was handcuffed without any reason and was sent to MGM Hospital without proper documents and then was sent back to Seraikela without treating him on the grounds that the papers were not sent with him.

Taking strong exception to the matter on Sunday, IMA Jamshedpur unit president Dr. Umesh Khan urged the district administration to identify those people due to whose mistakes Dr. OP Anand was sent from MGM hospital with handcuffs and without treatment.

However, Dr Umesh Khan also criticised the alleged controversial remarks made by Dr OP Anand against the Health Minister and the investigation team.

He also strongly condemned the sections under which he was arrested. He said that if a doctor is treated in this manner, any doctor will think twice before treating.

Citing the orders of the Supreme Court, he said that a doctor can be handcuffed only if he has been involved in a heinous crime. Even for that, he added, permission from the board is required. But this was not followed in the case of Dr OP Anand.
