Amarendra Pratap Singh wins Arrah seat, Ramesh Kumar fails to impress Brahampur voters
Patna: Amarendra Pratap Singh of Bhartiya Janata Party has won the Arrah assembly constituency. He defeated his closest rival Quyamuddin Ansari of CPI (ML) with a thin margin of around 3000 votes. Amrendra Pratap Singh, who has close connection with Jamshedpur and is brother of late Mrigendra Pratap Singh, has bagged 71,781 (45.05%) votes in Bihar Assembly elections.
On the other hand, Subhanand Mukesh of Indian National Congress has lost the elections on Kahalgaon seat. He came close second with 72,645 (35.36%) votes, which is not a mean task. He was defeated by Pawan Kumar Yadav of BJP. Pawan Kumar Yadav received, 1,15,538 (56.23%) votes. So, although Subhanand Mukesh performed better than most other candidates, he came close second. 35.35% of the votes is not an insignificant support.
He was contesting elections from Kahalgaon seat in Bhagalpur district as a Congress candidate. He is the head of Environment Department in Tata Steel and has taken leave to contest elections.
Subhanand Mukesh’s father Sadanand Singh is one of the senior Congress leaders and he has worked as minister and was even the Assembly Speaker in Bihar.
Sadanand Singh has a record of winning Kahalgaon seat nine times. This time, instead of contesting elections, he had fielded his son on Congress ticket. His son too did not perform very badly and won a good support among voters, showing that he has a political future too.
On the other hand, Prof Javed Iqbal Ansari, who was contesting on RJD ticket, on Banka seat too has come close second by bagging 52,934 (33.24%) votes. He lost to Ram Narayan Mandal of BJP, who received 69,762 (43.8%) votes. He is also a lecturer in Workers’ College. His results was also being watched closely by people of Jamshedpur. Although, he lost to BJP candidate, he did not perform too badly either and came close second. 33.24% share of votes is not an ordinary support. He rather did quite well and would be satisfied with his performance.
On the other hand, Ramesh Kumar, who lives in Burmamines, and for whom Saryu Roy had also campaigned on Brahampur constituency could not perform well and was able to bag only 1,193 votes (0.65%).
