Tarachand Mahanty cremated, city bids emotional farewell to a dynamic leader

Jamshedpur: The president of Central Durga Puja Committee Tarachand Mahanty was cremated today at Parvati Ghat at Bistupur. Members of Central Durga Puja Committee and other citizens of the city bid him a tearful farewell.

The last rituals of Tarachand Mahanty were completed complying with all the instructions of the administration keeping the Corona situation in mind.

Only limited persons were present during cremation.

Most of the members of different Durga Puja Committees wanted to take part in the cremation, but this could not be possible due to Corona situation.

Most had to be content with live last darshan of the departed soul.

His body was brought to Utkal Association where senior members of the Association and Committee offered their floral tributes.

Tarachand Mahanty was known for his dynamic leadership and problem solving ability.

He had also played a big role in other social organisations like Rotary Club and Lions Club and Central Peace Committee.

HIs son Sidharth Mahanty lit the pyre during his cremation.

Those who were present during cremation included Rambabu Singh, Chandranath Banerjee, Ashutosh Singh, Sambhu Mukhi, Ambika Banerjee, Pradip Das, Pramatma Mishra, Rudra Pratap, Shyam Kumar, Lalan yadav, and Tarun Mahanty and R N Satpathy.

Tarachand Mahanty had served the committee for more than 50 years. He had started as a member of the committee and reached the post of president of the committee and in the process has contributed immensely.
