Alarming Increase in Women-Related Crimes in India, Says Jharkhand Human Rights Group
Jharkhand Human Rights Conference’s meeting in Mango Baikunth Nagar sheds light on the concerning rise in crimes against women in India.
JAMSHEDPUR – Manoj Mishra, Chairman of the Jharkhand Human Rights Conference, expressed concern over the increasing crimes against women in India during a meeting in Mango Baikunth Nagar.
He criticized the government’s approach to women’s safety and rights, pointing out the lack of active measures despite claims of prioritizing women empowerment.
Referencing the 2022 National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, Mishra highlighted a 4 percent increase in registered crimes against women in India compared to 2021.
The NCRB report showed a worrying trend with 4,45,256 cases of crimes against women registered in 2022, up from 4,28,278 in 2021.
In Jharkhand, Mishra pointed out, approximately 43 percent of women, out of a population of nearly 1.89 crore, face some form of crime.
Nationally, this figure stands at 64.5 percent, and alarmingly, it reaches 104.5 percent in union territories.
Delhi, the national capital, reported the highest rate of crimes against women at 147.6 percent.
Mishra emphasized the continuous rise in such crimes, with 2022 marking a significant increase compared to 2020 and 2021.
Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of these cases, while Delhi had the worst crime rate against women.
He urged governments that advocate for women empowerment to take these figures seriously and implement effective measures.
The meeting was attended by a large number of people, including Salavat Mahato, Gurmukh Singh, Rishi Gupta, and several other members and local dignitaries.
Their presence underscored the community’s concern and commitment to addressing this critical issue.
