Yellow alert issued for rainfall during festive period in Kolhan region

Key Points:

• Meteorological Department warns of rain during Durga Puja in Jharkhand

• Light to moderate rainfall expected across state, heavy in some areas

• Thunder and lightning likely between October 2 and 10 in various districts

RANCHI – Jharkhand’s Durga Puja celebrations face potential disruption as meteorologists predict rainfall throughout the festive period.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the region.

Adverse weather conditions are expected to persist throughout Navratri.

Meteorologist Abhishek Anand forecasts light to moderate rain across Jharkhand.

Heavy rainfall is possible in certain areas of the state.

Thunder and lightning are likely to occur between October 2 and 10.

Rain and thunderstorms are predicted for October 2 and 3 in multiple districts.

Affected areas include Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, and Koderma, among others.

The Kolhan region, known for elaborate pandals, may face significant disruptions.

Jamshedpur, West Singhbhum, and Seraikela-Kharsawan expect rain from October 5 to 7.

Many districts will likely remain cloudy until October 10.

Intermittent rain is expected to continue throughout this period.

A local puja organizer remarked, "We’re preparing contingency plans for the celebrations."

The weather disruption is attributed to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.

Despite potentially less rainfall than initially predicted, overcast skies will persist.

This forecast poses challenges for the region’s grand Durga Puja celebrations.

Adityapur and Jamshedpur, known for artistic pandals, may need to adapt plans.

The community’s devotion and revelry might be tested by the inclement weather.

Puja committees are likely to implement measures to protect pandals and idols.

The weather alert has prompted discussions about alternative celebration arrangements.
