Mass termination follows discovery of fraudulent qualifications during investigation

Officials confirm ongoing scrutiny of 120 more rural postal service recruits.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Department of Posts has terminated 29 employees with immediate effect in the Singhbhum region, encompassing East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts, after their educational degrees were found to be fraudulent.

Parmanand Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Posts for the Singhbhum region, confirmed the action. "Twenty employees who had been working in various post offices for years have been dismissed," Kumar stated. "Additionally, nine individuals who were selected but hadn’t joined yet have had their appointments cancelled."

The investigation has cast a wider net, with 120 rural postal service recruits currently under scrutiny.

"We’re examining the degrees of all recent rural postal service hires. Further action will be taken based on those findings," Kumar added.

This mass termination highlights concerns about document verification in government recruitment processes.

The postal department faces additional challenges, with 287 vacant positions across Kolhan region post offices.

"New recruitment drives will be conducted to fill these vacancies, including those created by the recent terminations," a department spokesperson noted.

This incident underscores the need for stringent background checks in public sector hiring.

Local authorities are likely to investigate the source of these fraudulent degrees to prevent future occurrences.

The terminations may impact postal services in the short term, potentially leading to delays in rural areas.

This development raises questions about the extent of similar fraud in other government departments.
