Jharkhand CM Pushes for Clean Water Access

Champai Soren Reviews Progress of Jal Jeevan Mission

The Jharkhand government intensifies efforts to ensure potable water availability across the state, with a focus on rural areas and quality infrastructure.

RANCHI – Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren conducted a comprehensive review of the state’s drinking water and sanitation initiatives, emphasizing the timely completion of Jal Jeevan Mission projects.

In a high-level meeting at the Jharkhand Secretariat, CM Soren directed officials to expedite the implementation of various water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Jal) rural program.

"Every household covered under the Jal Jeevan Mission must have access to clean, running water," stated the Chief Minister, underscoring the government’s commitment to resolving drinking water issues.

Focus on Rural Water Supply

The Chief Minister instructed officials to assess the functionality of installed taps and ensure water availability in all covered households.

He emphasized the importance of proper operation and maintenance of rural water supply schemes, urging officials to exercise special vigilance in this regard.

"We must accelerate the progress of new tube well installations at the panchayat level and ensure prompt repairs of non-functional ones," CM Soren directed.

Addressing Seasonal Challenges

Recognizing the potential water scarcity during the monsoon season, the Chief Minister called for proactive measures to prevent any drinking water crisis.

"Clean drinking water must be available to our citizens, regardless of the season," he asserted, asking the department to develop a special action plan to avert future water shortages.

World Bank Project and Agency Accountability

CM Soren addressed the delay in completing a World Bank-funded water supply project in Saraikela-Kharsawan district, stating, "The negligence of the agency responsible for the Intadar and Dudra Kamalpur projects will not be tolerated. The department must take action and ensure the completion of these vital water supply schemes."

Sanitation Initiatives and Rural Development

The Chief Minister urged officials to link toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) with the Abua Awas Yojana, emphasizing the need for quality sanitation facilities.

"Our government is committed to providing beneficiaries of Abua Awas with durable, high-quality toilets," CM Soren declared, instructing a review of the current funding allocation for toilet construction.

He also called for widespread promotion of the Gobardhan project in rural areas, emphasizing the importance of informing villagers about the benefits of biogas plants.
