SERAIKELA-KHARSAWAN – Police in Seraikela-Kharsawan district continued their crackdown on crime and absconding accused with the arrest of a man wanted in a theft case. Kapali outpost police arrested Mohammad Mahfooz, around 30 years old, who had been evading the law for an extended period.
Mahfooz, son of Mohammad Matlub, is a resident of Millat Nagar under Kapali outpost limits within Chandil police station area. Police identified him as the accused in a theft case that had remained unresolved due to his continued absconding.
According to available information, the accused had stayed out of police reach for some time despite an active search. Acting on specific intelligence, Kapali outpost police carried out the operation and took him into custody.
Following the arrest, officers questioned Mahfooz about the case and began completing the required legal procedures. The arrest is being seen as a significant step toward curbing theft and other criminal activities in the area.
On the directions of the Seraikela-Kharsawan superintendent of police, a continuous campaign is being run across the district against absconding accused and those involved in criminal cases. Police said the message from the operation was clear: evading the law and staying hidden for long periods would not be easy.
Kapali outpost police are now examining the accused’s criminal history and other aspects connected to the case. The investigation is expected to continue in the coming days as officers verify additional details.
The arrest is part of a wider enforcement push across the district, which has also seen recent action against a vehicle theft gang in Gudabandha and a separate case in neighbouring Jamtara. Police in the wider Kolhan region have similarly busted a vehicle theft gang in Jamshedpur and solved a grain shop burglary in Seraikela in recent weeks, part of a broader pattern of property crime enforcement across the Kolhan division.
