SERAIKELA – Villagers rushed to help after lightning struck five women working in a field in Pandra village on Monday.

Sonamani Mahato and Mukta Mahato died on the spot. The other three women suffered severe burns in the strike.

Nearby villagers reached the site as soon as news spread. They quickly began relief efforts to assist the injured women.

With local help, the three injured were rushed to Tiruldih hospital first. Doctors gave them primary treatment there.

However, given the severity of their condition, all three were later referred to Patkum hospital. Their condition is currently said to be out of danger.

Meanwhile, the Tiruldih police station in-charge reached the spot with his team. Officers began gathering details related to the incident.

Police have started examining the facts surrounding the lightning strike. JMM block president Kritibas Mahato also arrived at the site with his associates to assist in the relief work.

The incident, which occurred under the Tiruldih police station area in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district, has left the village in mourning. Family members of the deceased are inconsolable, and grief has spread across Pandra.

Police are following the required legal procedure to take custody of the two bodies. The deaths of two women, along with three others being injured, has shaken the entire village.

Police have also acted on drug-related crime nearby, including a Ghatshila drug arrest. Elsewhere in the region, road accidents have also been reported, such as a Chandil road mishap that claimed a life this week.
