Locals Nab Duo After Chopper Attack in Burmamines

JAMSHEDPUR – Alert residents overpowered two men attempting a robbery in the Burmamines police station area on Sunday night.
The accused had arrived on a scooter and targeted a Baridih resident, Rajesh Kumar. They allegedly attacked him with a chopper before snatching his cash.
Following this, the duo also tried to grab Rajesh’s mobile phone. However, his resistance drew nearby people, who quickly surrounded and caught both men.
Burmamines police reached the spot soon after being informed of the incident. Officers subsequently took both accused into custody for questioning.
The police also recovered the chopper used during the assault. In addition, the scooter used by the accused was seized and taken to the station.
Investigators are currently questioning both suspects to establish further details. Rajesh Kumar told police he was relieving himself along the roadside when the attack occurred.
Two men on a scooter allegedly approached him and struck him with a sharp weapon. “They suddenly attacked and took whatever cash I had,” he said.
He added that the assailants then tried to snatch his phone before locals intervened. Meanwhile, the incident has fueled fresh concern among Jamshedpur residents.
For three consecutive days, the city has witnessed a string of violent crimes. This comes even as police remain on alert following the Himanshu Singh murder case.
Robbery, snatching, chopper attacks and firing incidents have continued to surface across the city. On Saturday night, a brother and sister returning from a birthday event were targeted in a snatching bid in Sidhgora.
On Friday, Sanjay Tandi was shot in Kadma‘s Ramjanam Nagar area. On Thursday, Ashim Banerjee was similarly robbed at chopper-point in the Telco area.
The repeated occurrences have raised serious questions about law and order in the city. Another chopper attack was also reported earlier this week in the Telco locality, where a youth suffered serious injuries during a robbery bid. Similarly, a man was shot in the leg during a late-night firing incident in Golmuri earlier this month.
