JAMSHEDPUR – A young man was seriously injured after being shot during a clash in Kadma on Thursday night, even as police conducted a flag march nearby.
A shooting incident occurred in Jamshedpur’s Kadma area Thursday night. It happened even as police held a flag march in the city.
The new Superintendent of Police personally led the march. The route covered Sakchi, Bistupur and several other areas.
However, the exercise aimed to reassure residents ahead of Friday’s bandh. It was also meant to prevent any untoward incident in the city.
Despite the march, violence erupted in Ramjanam Nagar around 11 p.m. An old rivalry over a gas cylinder dispute had turned violent there.
Two cousin brothers allegedly assaulted painter Sanjay Tandi first. They then opened fire on him during the confrontation.
The bullet tore through his jaw and exited the other side. Tandi suffered severe injuries in the attack.
Despite his injuries, Tandi picked up the spent bullet shell. He then walked himself to MGM Hospital for treatment.
Blood flowed continuously from his mouth during the journey. He pressed a cotton pad against the wound to stem it.
Doctors at the hospital began immediate treatment on arrival. Meanwhile, they continued monitoring his condition closely.
Kadma police reached the hospital soon after being informed. They recorded a statement from the injured man there.
“They attacked me over an old dispute,” Tandi told police. Officers later inspected the crime scene for evidence.
Investigators also began examining nearby CCTV camera footage. Tandi named his neighbors, Krishna Sona and Anil Sona, as attackers.
Police said the dispute stemmed from an old rivalry. A disagreement over a gas cylinder had also fueled tensions.
Officers have launched raids to arrest the accused. Both suspects remained absconding at the time of filing.
Moreover, police had earlier solved a similar Kadma firing case. In addition, a separate Kadma rivalry clash was reported last month.
On the other hand, a Sakchi firing case was resolved recently. Similarly, a Golmuri firing incident had left a man injured last month.
Besides, police had also solved a money dispute shooting in Ulidih. The city has seen a string of such firing incidents in recent weeks.
