Chaibasa: West Singhbhum Police has achieved major success against vehicle theft and busted an inter-district bike theft gang. The police arrested two members of the gang and recovered 20 stolen motorcycles on their trail. The recovered vehicles include many popular models including Honda Activa, Bajaj Pulsar NS-200, Hero Super Splendor, Yamaha R15, FZ, Fazer, Fascino, Honda Aviator.
In the press conference held on Tuesday, Superintendent of Police Vineet Kumar Kindo said that on June 1, information was received that stolen motorcycles were being bought and sold in Noamundi area. After verification of the information, a joint team of Noamundi, Kiriburu, Bada Jamda and Jamshedpur police was formed and a raid operation was conducted.
During the operation, Sonu Lohra alias Bhola was arrested from Dukasai village. Based on the information received during his interrogation, the police also arrested Raj Purti. At the behest of both the accused, 20 stolen motorcycles kept hidden at different places were recovered.
Investigation has revealed that the gang used to hide the stolen bikes in rural and isolated areas and later sell them at low prices. Police suspect that the recovered vehicles may have been stolen from various areas of Odisha besides Jharkhand. In this case, the search is on for other gang members and people who bought stolen bikes.
Arrested accused:
- Sonu Lohra alias Bhola, resident of Birsanagar, Jamshedpur.
- Raj Purti, resident of Totongada, Chhotanagara, West Singhbhum.
The police have appealed to the general public that those whose motorcycles have been stolen in recent times should identify their vehicles by looking at the list of recovered vehicles. The process of returning the vehicle will be initiated after verification by contacting the concerned police station or police office with the necessary documents.
