JAMSHEDPUR — A young man was hacked with a sharp weapon near the Theme Park in the Telco police station area late Tuesday evening, sending shock waves through the locality.
The victim has been identified as Adarsh Singh. He was rushed to Tata Main Hospital in a critical condition shortly after the assault.
According to sources, the incident is rooted in a one-sided romantic obsession. Adarsh Singh had reportedly been pursuing a young woman persistently. She had tried to dissuade him on several occasions. However, he refused to relent.
The woman was reportedly present at the scene when the attack occurred. It is alleged that she directed two individuals, identified as Farooq and Ayan, to carry out the assault.
The two, along with a third unidentified accomplice, allegedly attacked Adarsh Singh with a cleaver-type weapon. Such chopper attacks have occurred elsewhere in the city in recent months.
On the other hand, Adarsh sustained grievous injuries in the assault. He was admitted to the hospital in a serious state.
Telco police reached the spot after receiving the information. They have since launched a manhunt for all three accused. Meanwhile, the full sequence of events is being investigated by the authorities.
“We are examining all available evidence,” said a source close to the investigation. “The accused will be traced and brought to book.”
The sharp-weapon attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Jamshedpur. The city has seen multiple chopper and weapon assaults in recent weeks. Police have been under mounting pressure to curb such crimes.
Earlier this month, a youth was critically injured in a sharp-edged weapon attack in Kashidih. In another incident, a fruit trader was shot in broad daylight. The string of incidents has alarmed residents across the city.
