JAMSHEDPUR — A parking disagreement near the Durga Kali Bari temple in Uliyan, under the Kadma police station area, escalated into a full-blown brawl on Tuesday afternoon, causing brief panic among residents.
Three local women — Sushriti Sen, Neelu Pramanik and Pinky Das — have levelled allegations against a group of youths. They said these youths routinely park their vehicles in front of their homes. According to them, the practice has been a persistent source of inconvenience for the neighbourhood.
On Tuesday, a fresh confrontation broke out when a group arrived in a Bolero vehicle. An argument over parking quickly turned heated. The women alleged that the group behaved in an unruly manner during the altercation. Moreover, they claimed that the men physically assaulted the women present at the scene.
However, the other side has offered a starkly different account. Rajeev Ram, one of the persons from the opposite group, denied all allegations of aggression. He said he was reversing his vehicle while returning from a shop when the dispute began.
Ram further alleged that he was subjected to casteist slurs during the confrontation. He said that the abusive language was what caused the situation to spiral. Following this, both sides resorted to pelting bricks and stones at each other. Ram’s vehicle was reportedly damaged in the melee.
The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the area. The footage has since been circulating rapidly on social media platforms.
Such street disputes have become a recurring concern in Kadma and surrounding localities in recent months. Police have been intervening more frequently in neighbourhood altercations across the city.
Kadma police rushed to the spot after being informed of the disturbance. Officers spoke to representatives of both parties and managed to defuse tensions. No arrest has been reported so far, and the matter is under the watch of the local police station.
