Tata Steel Wins Two National Sports Awards for Development

Company Honored at Sports Science India Awards and CII Sports Business Awards in December

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has secured dual recognition at national sports awards for advancing Indian sports development.

The Sports Science India Awards 2025 honored Tata Steel on December 6. The ceremony took place at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Moreover, the company received the SSI Sports Development Award.

Shri Manoj Ahuja, IAS, attended as chief guest. Shri Sachin R. Jadhav, IAS Sports Secretary, participated in the event. However, Shri Amitabh Thakur, IPS, joined the ceremony.

Shri Dilip Tirkey, former hockey captain, was present. Mr. Mukul Vinayak Choudhari received the award on behalf of Tata Steel. In addition, he serves as Chief Sports and CEO of Jamshedpur FC.

Jamsetji Tata mandated reserving large areas for sports in Jamshedpur. His vision created a robust sports ecosystem. Meanwhile, the JRD Tata Sports Complex provides world-class infrastructure.

The Tata Football Academy nurtures young talent consistently. The Tata Archery Academy produces national and international athletes. Furthermore, these institutions have shaped Indian sports for decades.

The 3rd CII Sports Business Awards 2025 recognized Tata Steel again. The ceremony occurred on December 9 in New Delhi. Besides, the company received the Legacy of Excellence Award.

Mr. Choudhari accepted the award at The Grand venue. He delivered an inspiring address about the company’s history. Moreover, he traced connections back to Jamsetji Tata’s founding vision.

Sir Dorabji Tata became a founding member in 1919. He joined the Indian Olympic Association that year. However, he personally financed India’s first Olympic team.

The team travelled to Antwerp in 1920 under his leadership. This occurred decades before India’s independence. In addition, it laid the cornerstone for international sports participation.

Tata Steel’s athletes have won 42 Arjuna Awards over the years. Coaches have received 6 Dronacharya Awards. Meanwhile, continuous investment strengthens grassroots programs across the nation.

The Confederation of Indian Industry congratulated Mr. Choudhari warmly. His visionary leadership transforms Indian sports development. Furthermore, over 150 leaders attended the New Delhi event.

Senior MYAS officials witnessed the recognition ceremony. Industry captains acknowledged Tata Steel’s contributions. Besides, the company’s impact resonated deeply with all participants.

“These awards are a testament to deep-rooted belief,” Mr. Choudhari stated. Sports builds character and fosters leadership qualities. Moreover, it contributes significantly to national development efforts.
