Thieves Target Five Shops in Sundarnagar, Raise Questions on Night Patrol

Cash and Goods Stolen From Multiple Stores on Nildungri Main Road

Key Points:

  • Five shops targeted in late-night theft on Sundarnagar main road
  • Cash and goods stolen from two ration stores
  • Shopkeepers allege lack of night police patrolling

JAMSHEDPUR – A series of thefts were reported from the Sundarnagar police station area, causing concern among local traders.

The incidents occurred on the Nildungri main road. Moreover, the thefts took place between around 1 am and 1.30 am. Thieves allegedly broke shop locks one after another.

According to shop owners, Mohan Srivastav’s ration shop was targeted first. Around Rs 3,000 in cash and grocery items were stolen. Similarly, about Rs 4,000 and goods were taken from Thakur Tudu’s ration store.

However, attempts were also made at two other establishments. Thieves tried breaking into a ladies tailor shop. They also attempted entry into a stationery store. In both cases, the main shutter locks did not break.

Shopkeepers said they noticed the damage in the morning. They found shutter locks broken on arrival. One trader said the main shutters held firm. He said losses could have been higher otherwise.

Several shop owners blamed the absence of police patrols. They alleged no night patrolling takes place in the area. Hence, thieves operated freely on the main road.

The affected traders have lodged complaints at the Sundarnagar police station. Meanwhile, police are expected to initiate an investigation. Similar theft incidents were earlier reported from Sundarnagar shops. The area had also seen a local protest over civic issues.

In addition, Sundarnagar police had earlier conducted an anti-drug drive. Other unrelated incidents from the wider region include a student death case and a forest body recovery.
