CHAIBASA – A health and vision screening camp for 60 bus drivers was conducted at the Chaibasa bus stand as part of Road Safety Month 2025.

District authorities, led by the District Transport Officer Rajesh Ekka and accompanied by medical professionals and committee members, organized the event. The initiative aimed to ensure drivers’ fitness and reduce road accidents. Rajesh Ekka highlighted the importance of timely eye exams, noting that eye health is often neglected despite its role in safe driving.

Drivers’ Health Takes Center Stage

Dr. Sushila Somen Topno from Sadar Hospital conducted the screenings, supported by Bahaman Tuti, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, and road safety members including Rajaram Gupta. This collaborative effort emphasized the importance of physical and visual fitness for drivers. This initiative aligns with road safety campaigns being conducted across the state.

Rising Accidents Demand Preventive Measures

During the event, officials reported an increasing trend in road accidents within the district, often linked to poor health or neglect of traffic norms by drivers. They urged compliance with traffic rules and regular health evaluations as critical steps in preventing mishaps. The rising road accidents have been a focal point, as highlighted in national safety drives.
