Key Points:

  • Administration expands vegetable farming target from 300 to 700 hectares
  • Free high-quality seeds of six vegetable varieties to be distributed
  • Farmers earning over Rs 1 lakh per harvest through modern methods

JAMSHEDPUR – The East Singhbhum district administration has launched an expanded vegetable farming initiative targeting 700 hectares in 2024-25.

The district has significantly increased its vegetable cultivation target from 300 hectares in 2023-24. District officials aim to boost local agricultural productivity through modern farming methods.

“We expect the seed distribution to begin within 10 days,” said District Horticulture Officer Anima Lakra. The administration will provide free seeds for six vegetable varieties.

Profitable Crop Cycles

Bottle gourd cultivation offers quick returns within 50-55 days. Each acre can yield 70-90 quintals per harvest.

Meanwhile, bitter gourd farmers can harvest twice yearly. One bigha typically produces around 5,000 kilograms per season.

“The transition to vegetable farming has transformed my income,” shared a local farmer. He now supplies tomatoes across multiple states.

Success Through Innovation

Modern farming techniques have opened new opportunities. Farmers are exploring multi-crop cultivation using advanced methods.

Moreover, Gopen Kumbhakar from Kherua village has become a role model. He grows multiple vegetable varieties simultaneously.

Furthermore, crops like nenua see high demand during summer. Farmers planting it in February-March secure significant profits.
