Strategic Advances and Technological Evolution Dominate Tata Group’s 2024 Achievements

Key Points:

  • Tata’s strategic bets flourish, expanding in hi-tech industries and manufacturing.
  • Technological advancements now drive scientific discoveries, notes Chandrasekaran.
  • Major projects include India’s first semiconductor fab and new global facilities.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran reflected on a transformative year for the Tata Group, lauding strides in technology and manufacturing amidst global challenges.

A Year of Progress and Reflection

The year 2024 was marked by geopolitical upheaval and economic adjustments. Chandrasekaran noted ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan, while political movements in South Korea and Bangladesh shaped regional dynamics. Closer to home, India faced evolving policies on trade and technology.

In a heartfelt mention, he mourned the passing of Ratan Tata, calling him an irreplaceable visionary who shaped Tata’s legacy. Yet, he expressed hope in the Group’s thriving initiatives, stating, “The strategic bets we made are bearing fruit, particularly in hi-tech industries.”

Expansion in Manufacturing and Technology

The Tata Group expanded its footprint globally and locally in 2024. Key achievements include:

  • India’s first semiconductor fab in Gujarat and an OSAT plant in Assam.
  • New manufacturing hubs for batteries, solar modules, and automotive components.
  • Innovations like Tata Motors’ AI-based EV range prediction model and BSNL’s indigenous 4G stack by TCS and Tejas Networks.

Chandrasekaran also highlighted Air India’s integration of four airlines and Indian Hotels’ global recognition of its Taj brand. These milestones underline Tata’s commitment to excellence in diverse sectors.

Technology Fuels Scientific Discovery

The chairman emphasized a shift in the innovation paradigm, where technology now drives scientific breakthroughs. Citing the Nobel Prize-winning AI model for protein structure prediction, he called it a “glimpse into a future where computational tools revolutionize industries like drug discovery.” This progress, he noted, aligns with Tata’s focus on human wellbeing and sustainable economic growth.

Optimism for 2025

As India strengthens its economy and technological base, Chandrasekaran sees immense potential in the nation’s young workforce. “Our talent will not just contribute but build India’s future,” he remarked, expressing confidence in manufacturing’s multiplier effect on job creation.

Chandrasekaran concluded with gratitude to Tata employees, inspiring optimism for the coming year.
