Crackdown on Tobacco Sales Near Schools in Jamshedpur

Raids Conducted in Sitaramdera, Bhalubasa, and Baradwari; Fines Imposed

JAMSHEDPUR – Following instructions from District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Shatabdi Majumdar led a crackdown on illegal tobacco sales near private schools in Jamshedpur. Raids were conducted in Sitaramdera, Bhalubasa, and Baradwari to enforce a ban on selling tobacco products within 100 yards of schools.

During the operation, shops near Harijan School (Bhalubasa), Adivasi School (Sitaramdera), and Peoples Academy (Baradwari) were inspected. Three shops were found violating the ban, with tobacco products confiscated and fines totaling ₹600 imposed.

Ongoing Monitoring and Warnings

SDO Majumdar emphasized that selling tobacco near schools is strictly prohibited and warned shop owners of stricter penalties for repeated violations. “We are not only seizing tobacco products but also inspecting food safety compliance,” Majumdar stated.

The operation involved Executive Magistrate Sudipta Raj and Food Safety Officer Manzar Hussain. Seized products will be listed and destroyed. The campaign against illegal tobacco sales will continue to ensure compliance.

Focus on Public Health and Safety

Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining a safe environment around educational institutions. Selling tobacco products near schools is both unlawful and detrimental to students’ health, officials stressed.
