JAMSHEDPUR – The East Singhbhum administration has initiated proceedings to cancel a 1.90-acre land settlement in Kuldiha after discovering its illegal conversion into a commercial complex.
The matter surfaced when Dhalbhum DCLR Gautam Kumar confirmed violations in land use. The settlement holder, Parvati Murmu, was found to have constructed shops on agricultural land.
Official Actions Taken
DC Ananya Mittal has directed immediate corrective measures. Meanwhile, notices have been issued to 45 encroachers on December 6, 2024.
“The situation could have been prevented with timely intervention,” a senior district official stated. Moreover, the administration plans to reclaim the property once settlement cancellation procedures are complete.
Departmental Accountability
The Potka Circle Officer faces disciplinary action for oversight. On the other hand, investigations have revealed lapses by local revenue officials.
A local lawyer explained, “Converting agricultural settlement land for commercial use is a serious violation of land laws.”
The case has prompted a broader investigation into land misuse across Kuldiha. Furthermore, similar cases have emerged in neighboring areas of East Singhbhum district.
