Female Workers Take Charge of Heavy Machinery in Historic Mining Initiative

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel made history by launching India’s first all-women mining shift at its Noamundi Iron Mine on Saturday.

Women operators will handle heavy machinery operations. The initiative breaks traditional gender barriers in mining.

“This marks a progressive step in workplace equality,” noted Shyam Sundar Prasad, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety.

Government Support

The 2019 DGMS decision enabled women’s deployment in mining shifts. This policy change facilitated the current initiative.

Meanwhile, senior mines safety officials attended the launch. They praised Tata Steel’s pioneering effort.

Breaking Barriers

The women will operate various mining equipment. Their roles include HEMM and shovel operations.

Moreover, they will handle drill and dozer operations. The shift includes supervision responsibilities.

Furthermore, this initiative promotes workplace diversity. It sets an example for the mining industry nationwide.
