MEDININAGAR – A fire broke out in the pediatric ward of Medini Rai Medical College and Hospital (MMC&H) in Palamu. While the incident caused damage to medical equipment, no casualties or injuries were reported as hospital staff acted swiftly to move all infants to safety.

Cause of the Fire and Immediate Response

According to MMC&H Superintendent Dr. Dharmendra Kumar, the fire was triggered by a high voltage issue in an HFMC machine in the ward. Health workers on duty promptly shifted all children to another ward, ensuring their safety.

Dr. Kumar confirmed, “The fire caused no harm to patients. Only medical equipment was damaged. The situation is now under control, and all infants have been safely shifted back to the ward.”

Inspection by Authorities

Upon receiving the information, Palamu Deputy Commissioner Shashi Ranjan arrived at the hospital to assess the situation. He conducted a detailed inspection and issued necessary directives to the hospital administration for preventing similar incidents in the future.

Technical Checks Conducted

Technicians reached the hospital shortly after the fire to examine the cause and ensure the safety of electrical systems.

The pediatric and maternity wards were shifted to a new building just a year ago, with the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) located on the fourth floor, where the fire occurred. Senior departmental officials also inspected the site to evaluate the damage and overall safety measures.

Current Situation

The hospital authorities have declared the situation under control, and normalcy has been restored. Patients and attendants have been assured of their safety following the incident.
