JAMSHEDPUR – A 56-year-old man, G Karmakar, residing in Baradwari Deonagar under Sitaramdera police station, attempted self-harm on Saturday evening. Karmakar, employed at a scrap yard in Sonari, has been struggling with addiction and mental stress.

According to reports, G returned home under the influence of alcohol and attempted to hang himself using a saree. However, his family intervened just in time and saved him.

The family rushed G to MGM Hospital for immediate treatment. Given the severity of his condition, doctors referred him to RIMS in Ranchi for advanced medical care.

Family members revealed that G had been battling mental stress for a long time, exacerbated by his addiction. They added that this was not his first suicide attempt.

G Karmakar is a father of three children, and his struggles with addiction have worsened his situation. Incidents like this highlight the growing issue of mental health and substance abuse in urban areas like Jamshedpur.

Authorities and health experts emphasize the need for better mental health awareness and addiction rehabilitation services to help such individuals cope.
