Ball Badminton Championship to Begin in Jamshedpur From Dec 15

11 Districts to Compete in Week-Long State-Level Tournament at Nepal Building Ground

JAMSHEDPUR – The week-long 22nd Jharkhand State Senior Men and Women Ball Badminton Championship kicks off at Nepal Building Sports Ground on December 15.

Over 200 players are expected to participate in the championship. The tournament marks the return of competitive ball badminton to the city after three years.

Ball badminton gained popularity in South India before spreading nationwide. The sport uses wool-covered rackets and yellow balls.

Tournament Format

The matches will follow a league-cum-knockout system. Teams will first compete in groups before advancing to elimination rounds.

The championship provides qualification opportunities for national-level tournaments. Winners will represent Jharkhand in upcoming national championships.

District Participation

Eleven districts have confirmed their participation. East Singhbhum enters as defending champions in both categories.

“We expect highly competitive matches this year,” said a tournament official. The technical committee has appointed experienced referees for the event.

Organization and Management

Manoj Yadav leads the organizing committee as president. K. Rama Krishna serves as the organizing secretary.

The championship aims to promote ball badminton across Jharkhand. Previous editions have produced several national-level players from the state.
