Tata Archery Academy’s Ankita Bhakat Clinches Bronze in Taipei

JAMSHEDPUR – Ankita Bhakat, representing Tata Archery Academy, earned a bronze medal in the Recurve Women category at the World Archery Indoor World Series in Chinese Taipei, held from December 6 to 8, 2024.

Bhakat secured third place by defeating South Korea’s Lee Yunji with a 6-2 set score. This victory adds to her series of strong international performances. Notably, she was part of the Indian women’s recurve team that won gold at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Paris in 2021.

Fourteen athletes from Tata Archery Academy participated in the event, with eight advancing past the qualification round, which required shooting 60 arrows from 18 meters. This showcases the academy’s commitment to nurturing archery talent. Established in 1996, the academy has produced numerous international medalists, including Deepika Kumari, a former world number one.

Performance Highlights

– Ankita Bhakat (Recurve Women): Scored 591, ranked 4th, won bronze medal. – Goldie Mishra (Recurve Men): Scored 580, ranked 27th, reached 1/8 round. – Himanshi (Under 21): Scored 559, ranked 10th, reached 1/4 round. – Komalika Bari (Recurve Women): Scored 570, ranked 22nd, reached 1/32 round. – Krishna (Under 21): Scored 552, ranked 13th, reached 1/4 round. – Madhvi Chauhan (Recurve Women): Scored 563, ranked 30th, reached 1/32 round. – Sharanya Shailesh Ambre (Under 21): Scored 558, ranked 11th, reached 1/8 round. – Jayant Talukdar (Recurve Men): Scored 584, ranked 20th, reached 1/32 round.

Other participants included Saanhji Singhania, Aditya Wadhwa, Bhajan Kaur, Krish Kumar, Manjhiri Alone, Prathik Kumar Saha, and Shree Chowdhury, who also showcased commendable efforts.

The Tata Archery Academy continues to be a pivotal institution in developing archery talent in India, contributing significantly to the nation’s achievements in the sport.
