Women Power Surges in Jharkhand Polls with 54 Assembly Seats

Female Candidates Make Up 10.56% of Total Contestants Across 81 Constituencies

Key Points:

* 128 women candidates vie against 879 men in Jharkhand assembly elections

* AJSU Party leads with 30% women candidates among major political parties

* Nari Shakti Vandan Act to reserve one-third seats for women in future polls

RANCHI – In a significant development for gender representation, 128 women candidates are contesting across 54 constituencies in the Jharkhand assembly elections.

The election marks a crucial step toward women’s political empowerment in the state.

Meanwhile, the AJSU Party has emerged as a frontrunner in promoting gender equality.

In contrast, national parties have collectively fielded 25 women candidates out of their total 160 contestants.

Moreover, the recently passed Women’s Reservation Bill aims to transform political representation.

"This election represents a watershed moment for women’s participation in state politics," remarked a senior political analyst.

However, the overall gender ratio still shows room for improvement.

Furthermore, regional parties have contributed to increasing female representation at the grassroots level.

On the other hand, independent women candidates have shown remarkable initiative with 60 contestants.

Additionally, the implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act awaits the next census completion.

Besides national parties, state-recognized parties have fielded nine women candidates.
