JAMSHEDPUR – Renowned Hindi poet Dr. Shanti Suman was honored with the prestigious Man Bahadur Lahak Award on Saturday in a ceremony held at Tulsi Bhavan Auditorium.

With Dr. Suman unable to attend due to health reasons, her son Arvind Verma and daughter-in-law Dr. Vishakha Verma accepted the award on her behalf.

The ceremony was presided over by veteran writer Jayanandan, with critic Dr. Karn Singh Chauhan delivering the keynote, highlighting the uniqueness of Dr. Suman’s work.

Chauhan remarked that her poetry deeply interweaves themes of family, human suffering, and the unity between nature and household emotions.

He emphasized that her work provides a reflective narrative where “if the home is sad, nature is too, and if the home is happy, nature reflects it.”

Well-known critic Subhash Chandra Gupta described Suman as a dynamic figure in the Navgeet tradition and praised her significant contributions as a female poet.

Editor Ganesh Kumar Mehta recalled her early days in Muzaffarpur, celebrating her dedication to both journalism and literature.

Senior poet Shailendra Asthana commended her commitment to social issues, while Ashok Shubh Darshi praised her impactful Jan Geet poetry.

Dr. Chetna Verma, Suman’s daughter, spoke on her literary legacy, reading aloud several of her selected works to a captivated audience.

In his concluding address, Jayanandan noted that while awards can recognize talent, true literary work like Dr. Suman’s remains inherently inspiring and invaluable to society.
