Tata Steel Launches Major Safety Initiative Across Operations

Safety campaign ‘5 Safe Steps Forward’ aims to eliminate key workplace hazards by March 2025

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has launched an ambitious five-month safety campaign to address critical workplace hazards across its operational facilities.

The steel giant unveiled its comprehensive "5 Safe Steps Forward" initiative today to tackle key safety challenges.

"This targeted approach will revolutionize our safety standards across all operations," stated Rajiv Mangal, Vice President Safety, Health & Sustainability.

The campaign specifically addresses five crucial hazard areas requiring immediate attention.

Meanwhile, union leadership has pledged full support for the safety initiative.

"Every worker’s voice matters in creating a safer workplace," remarked a senior union representative.

Safety Enhancement Measures

The program will run through March 2025, focusing on systematic improvements.

Furthermore, the initiative targets hazards including falling objects and machinery-related risks.

"Our data shows these five areas need urgent intervention to prevent serious incidents," explained a safety expert.

Employee Engagement

A dedicated safety film will ensure message reaches all organizational levels.

Moreover, employees have taken an oath supporting the zero-harm workplace goal.

"Regular feedback from ground-level workers will drive the success of this campaign," noted a department supervisor.

To achieve the overarching goal of Zero Harm, Tata Steel conducts theme-based safety campaigns for addressing key safety concerns.

Rajiv Mangal in his address requested all departments and divisions of Tata Steel to show the commitment in identifying gaps and strengthening barriers and risk control measures to eliminate these hazards from their area.

Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary requested all employees to take part in this campaign share their safety concerns and suggestions and make the areas hazard free. He also requested union representatives to work hand in hand with management in this organizational initiative to achieve zero harm.

Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Chief Safety, Tata Steel in his welcome address informed that although through systematic deployment of Safety Systems and processes and review in Safety forums, Tata Steel have achieved significant success in managing risk for many hazards, but still in five key hazards area, e.g. Fall of Object, Heavy Vehicle & Mobile Equipment, Moving Machinery & Human-Machine interface, Hot Substance and Fall from height, serious incidents continue to occur. To eliminate these 5 key safety hazards in a timebound manner from Tata Steel workplace, the “5 Safe Steps Forward” campaign is launched which will run from November 2024 to March 2025. He briefed about the initiatives that will be carried out during this campaign at all levels.

A safety film was also shown in the program to convey the message of this campaign to the last person in the organization. The Vote of Thanks in the function was conveyed by Saroj Kumar Banerjee, Chief Safety, Raw Material. All present employees and dignitaries have taken the oath to make Tata Steel “Zero Hazard, Zero Risk, Zero Harm” workplace.
