RJD Secures 7 Seats in Jharkhand Assembly Elections Deal

Hemant Soren, Tejashwi Yadav reach agreement after initial deadlock

Key Points:

• RJD allotted 7 seats for Jharkhand assembly polls after negotiations

• JMM and Congress to contest 70 out of 81 assembly seats

• Girinath Singh to run from Vishrampur seat under RJD banner

RANCHI – Chief Minister Hemant Soren and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav reach accord on seat allocation for upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has secured seven seats for the Jharkhand assembly elections. This development comes after successful negotiations between Chief Minister Hemant Soren and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Initially, the RJD had demanded 15 to 18 seats, causing a deadlock in discussions. However, both parties eventually reached a mutual understanding.

Interestingly, this allocation mirrors the 2019 election arrangement. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress had already decided to contest 70 of the 81 assembly seats.

Moreover, only 11 seats remained for the RJD and other Left parties. This limited availability had initially caused discontent within the RJD ranks.

In the previous elections, the RJD won only one out of seven contested seats. Meanwhile, the JMM-Congress alliance secured 47 seats, surpassing the majority threshold of 41.

Furthermore, Girinath Singh will now contest from the Vishrampur seat under the RJD banner. This decision follows successful negotiations between Yadav and Soren.

Additionally, RJD leader Subhash Yadav will contest from Koderma constituency despite being in jail. He faces an ongoing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to a sand scam.

On the other hand, the ED has seized properties worth Rs 67.56 crore linked to Yadav and his associate. These seizures stem from allegations of illegal mining and significant revenue theft.

A political analyst commented, "This seat-sharing agreement could reshape the electoral landscape in Jharkhand."

In contrast, opposition parties have yet to announce their electoral strategies. The coming weeks may see further political maneuvering as elections approach.
