Jugsalai Launches Clean Puja Pandal Contest for Durga Puja

Initiative aims to boost cleanliness, environmental awareness during festival

Key Points:

• Contest part of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 and Swachh Survey 2024

• 16 criteria set for judging pandals on cleanliness and sustainability

• Top three pandals to receive awards for their eco-friendly efforts

JAMSHEDPUR – Jugsalai Municipal Council has introduced a Clean Puja Pandal Competition to promote cleanliness during Durga Puja celebrations.

The initiative is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0.

Moreover, it aims to address the increased solid waste generation during the festive season.

The competition will judge pandals based on 16 comprehensive cleanliness and sustainability criteria.

These criteria include the use of eco-friendly materials in idol construction and biodegradable decorations.

Additionally, pandals will be evaluated on their waste management practices.

Furthermore, the contest encourages innovative cleanliness initiatives from Puja committees and citizens.

Effective crowd management will also be a key factor in the judging process.

Pandals promoting public awareness about cleanliness will receive additional points.

The use of reusable or biodegradable materials for serving refreshments is another important criterion.

A local Puja committee member stated, "This competition motivates us to prioritize environmental conservation during celebrations."

On the other hand, the initiative also involves nearby shopkeepers in maintaining cleanliness.

Proper waste segregation and disposal methods will contribute significantly to a pandal’s score.

In addition, eco-friendly idol immersion practices will be rewarded.

The competition will award marks for unique approaches to cleanliness and sustainability.

Pandals can score up to 160 marks across all criteria.

The top three performers in the competition will receive recognition for their efforts.

This initiative aligns with the upcoming Swachh Survey 2024.
