Child’s slingshot mishap mistaken for gunfire at coaching center
Key Points:
• Alleged shooting at Telco Colony coaching center causes citywide panic
• Police investigation reveals incident was caused by child’s slingshot
• Teacher Akash Sinha injured by shattered glass, not gunfire
JAMSHEDPUR – A misinterpreted incident at a coaching center in Telco Colony sparked a false shooting scare, prompting a citywide police response before the truth emerged.
Reports of gunfire at a local coaching center sent shockwaves through Jamshedpur.
Jamshedpur Police swiftly responded, sealing off areas in Telco and Birsanagar.
Meanwhile, injured teacher Akash Sinha was rushed to Tata Main Hospital for treatment.
Social media and WhatsApp fueled the spread of rumors, intensifying fear in the locality.
However, hours of investigation revealed a surprising truth behind the alleged shooting.
Birsanagar police station officer-in-charge Nimdhari Rajak clarified the situation.
"No firing incident had taken place," Rajak stated, debunking the initial reports.
In fact, the panic stemmed from an innocent children’s game gone awry.
A group of children, aged 8-12, were hunting birds near the coaching center.
Unexpectedly, a pebble from a child’s slingshot struck the coaching center’s window.
The impact shattered the glass, injuring Sinha who was teaching at the time.
The loud crack of breaking glass, combined with Sinha’s injury, led to false assumptions.
Sinha later recounted the incident to the police, confirming there was no gunshot.
"A pebble hit the window. There was no gunshot," he explained to authorities.
What began as a terrifying manhunt concluded with a much simpler explanation.
The incident serves as a reminder of how quickly misinformation can spread.
