RANCHI – A PIL in Jharkhand High Court challenges the Mainya Samman Yojana, prompting CM Hemant Soren to defend the women’s welfare scheme.
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Jharkhand High Court aims to stop the implementation of the Mukhyamantri Mainya Samman Yojana.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has taken to social media to question the opposition’s motives.
"Why does the BJP not want the welfare of our sisters? Their constant attack on Jharkhandi interests is concerning," Soren expressed on his social media handle.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has alleged that the legal challenge is orchestrated by the BJP.
"Unable to halt the scheme through other means, they’ve resorted to legal maneuvers," a JMM spokesperson stated.
The petitioner, Vishnu Sahu from Simdega, argues that the state government cannot directly transfer money to individuals.
"Public funds should be invested in welfare schemes, not deposited into personal accounts," Sahu’s petition contends.
The Mainya Samman Yojana provides Rs 1000 monthly to eligible women aged 20-50 years.
Critics claim the scheme aims to influence voters ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Supporters argue it’s a crucial step towards women’s empowerment and financial independence.
The High Court’s decision on this matter is eagerly awaited by both proponents and opponents of the scheme.
