Tata Steel commemorated Sir Dorabji Tata’s 165th birth anniversary with a ceremony in Jamshedpur, emphasizing his legacy.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel honored the 165th birth anniversary of Sir Dorabji Tata with a homage ceremony in Jamshedpur.

The celebration began at Sir Dorabji Tata Park, where Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President (Operations) of Tata Steel Jamshedpur, served as the Chief Guest.

Dr. T Mukherjee, former Deputy Managing Director of Tata Steel, and Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President of Tata Workers’ Union, also attended as Special Guest and Guest of Honour, respectively.

Chaitanya Bhanu praised Sir Dorabji Tata’s pivotal role in India’s industrial growth, highlighting how he and Meherbai Tata pledged their entire belongings during challenging times to save Tata Steel.

Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary spoke about Sir Dorabji Tata’s empathy towards workers and his efforts in nurturing the Tata Workers’ Union.

He also underscored Sir Dorabji’s passion for sports, noting how he wove it into Tata Steel’s ethos, following his father’s vision to integrate sports and recreation into corporate culture.

Sir Dorabji Tata’s commitment to sports led to India’s participation in the 1920 Antwerp Olympics and secured the country’s place in the 1924 Paris Olympics.

He was the first President of the Indian Olympic Association and a member of the International Olympic Committee.

Tata Steel continues to honor his legacy by fostering sports talent across India through various academies, underlining sports as a vital part of nation-building.

“Tata Steel’s dedication to nurturing sports is a testament to Sir Dorabji Tata’s enduring influence,” noted Bhanu during his speech.

The event concluded with the gathering reflecting on the lasting impact of Sir Dorabji Tata’s contributions on future generations.
